More Properties Transferred to HRA

On February the 18th, 2014, the Holyoke City Council approved the transfer of 12 city-owned properties to the Holyoke Redevelopment Authority (HRA). Each of the 12 properties are identified within the city’s Urban Renewal Plan, being located within Areas 5,6,8 & 10, with eight of the properties surrounding Carlos Vega Park in the neighborhood of South Holyoke.

Valley Opportunity Council cuts the ribbon on new market rate appartments

The Valley Opportunity Council (VOC) cut the ribbon on 11 new market rate apartments at the building on the corner of Hampden and Pearl Streets. The VOC purchased the building last year and in just 1 year has completed renovations and has fully occupied the units. The investment into the building is approximately $300,000.

Vacant City Properties Returning to Tax Rolls after 1st Auction

On April 25, 2013 at the Holyoke Senior Center, the first City Auction since 1976 was held in front of a crowd of roughly 60 people. Out of the 14 properties available, 12 winning bids were made that will get the properties back into private ownership and producing taxes. The majority of the properties bought were vacant residential lots and there was a commercial lot, commercial building and industrial building also bought.

City to Hold Public Auction

The City will hold it’s first Tax Title Auction since 1976 on April 25, 2013.

The Auction will be held at the Senior Center located at 291 Pine Street.

Registration Begins at 6:00 PM with the Auction kicking off at 7:00 PM.

Redevelopment of former Holyoke Catholic Campus aided by State tax credits

Last month, the development group Weld Management was awarded approximately $1.7 million from the Massachusetts Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) in housing subsidies to complete a funding package that will create 55 units of workforce housing within the former campus and facilities of Holyoke Catholic High School. This recent award compliments $990,000 in federal Low-Income Housing Tax Credits and other funds in Massachusetts Historic Rehabilitation Tax Credits.
