Computing Center to Open This Year

Just over 2 years from the announcement of its conception, the Massachusetts Green High Performance Computing Center (MGHPCC) is on track for completion by the end of the year. The Center’s construction was featured in the latest issue of BusinessWest and in a recent Boston Globe article for its use of technology that will allow it to operate with great efficiency. The $95 million investment is a collaboration between Harvard University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), the University of Massachusetts, Boston University, Northeastern University and corporate partners Cisco Systems and EMC Corp. Holyoke was chosen as the location for this innovative “green” center because of the Holyoke Gas & Electric’s renewable energy sources. Approximately 70% of the city’s power is produced from renewable sources such as hydroelectric and solar panel installations.
