On Wednesday, a groundbreaking ceremony was held by the Holyoke Parks and Recreation Department on the grounds of Veterans Park. Although construction had commenced a week earlier, the ceremony highlighted another key investment by the City in its downtown infrastructure and amenities. The improvements are being made possible by a $1.4million Gateway City Parks grant given to the City by the Massachusetts Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs. This award was the largest amount allocated in the State for one project.
The improvements will include new walkways, lighting, benches and ornamental fencing. The Park commemorates the Veterans, past and present, of the City of Holyoke and contains memorials dedicated to those who served in Vietnam, the Korean Conflict and World War II.Share
