As part of the MassDOT Infra-Space Project, the City of Holyoke is working with area businesses, community organizations, and students to revitalize and repurpose the area on Main Street under I-391. Holyoke is one of eight cities that submitted a nomination in response to a Request for Information distributed to municipalities, businesses, non-profit institutions, property owners, developers, and community and arts organizations asking for nominations and redevelopment project proposals for locations across the Commonwealth where elevated roadways, bridges, viaducts, or other transportation infrastructure are a barrier to neighborhoods, pedestrians, bicyclists, multi-modal travel, urban resources, and economic development opportunities.
The proposal for this location seeks to create a gateway to Holyoke’s urban core for economic development, downtown revitalization, and build community spirit. Developing the space into a safe, well-lit, attractive pathway is key to foster a positive image of the area as a family-oriented community. Using art and light installations, the proposed location will be beautified and enhanced into a space for the community to enjoy.
The project is still in its early planning and design phases; public meetings will be held to gain community feedback at a date/location TBD. Contact email@example.com for more information.Share
