Sponsored by the Holyoke Restoration Guild – this Saturday, October 20th from 11am-12pm, at Gateway City Arts (92 Race Street) Mr. Roberto Rosa will be presenting a 40-60 minute slideshow on the care, maintenance and conservation of stained glass windows. Mr. Rosa’s experience in the restoration field and his studies in art began in Rome where he lived for twelve years. He joined Serpentino Stained Glass in Needham, MA in 1988 – making it his goal to specialize in quality restoration and conservation of historic stained glass windows.
Roberto continues to be ‘hands-on” on all of Serpentino’s Restoration projects. He has restored numerous important windows in some of American’s most historic buildings: The Massachusetts State House; Trinity church, Boston, 16th Street Baptist Church, Alabama, Temple Emanu-El, NYC, Boston College and St. Stephen Episcopal Church, Pittsfield, MA. Most recently he was the chief conservator for thirteen opalescent glass windows at Salve Regina University of Newport RI.
He is a founding member of the American Glass Guild, an international organization dedicated to education. Roberto is also a professional Associate of the American Institute for Conservation of Historic and Artistic works, a member of the National Trust for Historic Preservation, Assoc. for Preservation Technology International and the Boston.Preservation Alliance.
The City of Holyoke has begun fundraising for the restoration of 13 Stained Glass windows in City Hall, recently receiving $50,000 from the Holyoke Public Library which is temporarily housed there. The windows of painted antique glass were designed and made by Samuel West of the Ecclesiastical Stained Glass Works in Boston and installed when City Hall opened in 1876.
