On Thursday, September 24, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., the public is invited to an open house event at THE CUBIT, a four-story soon to be renovated mixed-use mill building at 164 Race Street, on the canal in Holyoke’s Innovation District.
Last known as the Cubit Wire and Cable Company, brothers Denis and Marco Luzuriaga purchased the 50,000 square foot building in April, 2015. Upcoming plans for the building include the Canal Market, an indoor market, providing quality artisan foods, much of it sourced locally, and a coffee shop to operate on the first floor. The building’s upper three floors will be devoted to living and work lofts in spaces with a full kitchen, bath, sleeping quarters and plenty of closet space, high ceilings and large bright windows. The brothers are considering a leasable commercial kitchen and a live music establishment in the basement.
“The idea is we want to attract people here. A lot is already going on with events by our neighbors. We want to contribute to that” says Marco Luzuriaga.
On September 24, guests will get a glimpse of what life at THE CUBIT could be, when it open its doors, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., with an open house featuring local food, drinks and music. A variety of quality food and drink will be available, which will be produced in Holyoke and surrounding areas. John Grossman from Holyoke Hummus Company and Fast Friends’ “Slow Food with Love” created by John Peter Wentworth and Tara Tulley are providing food for the evening. White Lion, a Springfield-based brewery, will be pouring libations. Kevin Boissonnault will play music from his extensive collection.
This event is free and open to the public and is sponsored by MIFAfestival.org
