The City of Holyoke contracted Davey Resource Group to review current and historical land cover classifications, analyze data for environmental benefits and demographic trends, and provide recommendations for prioritized planting areas for the City of Holyoke’s Environmental Justice (EJ) community. Developing and implementing a plan to re-forest public streets and public parks within these target neighborhoods is a crucial component of the City’s plan to enhance the quality of life for a substantial portion of the City’s residents.
This analysis supports the goal of reducing overall energy and stormwater management expenses and ensuring equal access to the environmental benefits of trees across all demographics. The resultant prioritized planting plan is based on maximizing environmental and social benefits.
This study also provides a prioritized planting plan and is accompanied by a full-sized wall map and Mapbook, which provides details of the prioritized planting plan at the parcel level.
