Universal Plastics Corp. was bought by a father-son duo, Jay and Sunil Kumar of New York and New Jersey respectively, from Joseph Peters. Sunil Kumar has an extensive background in manufacturing and his son Jay is a graduate of Cornell University who has experience in the investment arena. The new family ownership plans to keep and grow the company in Holyoke, which now has approximately 70 employees.

Universal Plastics was founded in 1965 and specializes in custom thermoforming, which is a plastic manufacturing process. Joseph Peters, now former owner and a longtime local manufacturer, will remain with the company.
